Saint Benedict Year Eight went on retreat to the Briars from the 6th-9th January 2020. During the retreat we focused on the theme of evolution and how we could grow to be the best we can be.

Our first evening was filled with meeting and playing games in our small groups. We completed challenges that required team work to earn stars for the group. One of the challenges was to work together to protect a Pringle using cardboard, tape and paper. The protection was tested at the end of the evening, with the surviving Pringles earning an extra three stars!

Our first morning began with a small group leading morning prayer on the theme of Jeremiah 1:5:

‘I chose you before I gave you life, and before you were born’.

We reflected on ourselves and learned about others by sharing our life experiences and feelings in small groups.

In the afternoon we were challenged to select the best group member with the skills needed to complete the challenges in our Brightlights Gameshow. The challenges involved acting, organisation and a steady hand.

During the evening we celebrated our retreat by sharing in mass as a community and partying in our disco. We finished the evening with night prayer prepared by the team.

Our final morning was filled with praise as we began with Morning prayer created by a small group centred on Colossians 3:12:

‘You are the people of God; he loved you and chose you for his own. So then, you must clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience’.

In our final liturgy we put together a jigsaw that each group decorated a piece of to reveal Jesus at the centre of everything, even if he isn’t recognised in the moment.

Each groups jigsaw piece reminded us that Jesus is at the centre of EVERYTHING
